What is a PAC Code?

A PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) is a unique identifier used to transfer your mobile phone number from one network provider to another in the UK. This nine-digit code ensures you can keep your existing phone number when switching service providers.

How to obtain a PAC Code

There are 3 ways to obtain a PAC Code:

Text to Switch:

The simplest method is to text 'PAC' to 65075 from the number you wish to keep. This free service will provide your PAC code via text within a minute​.

Contacting Your Provider:

Alternatively, you can call your current network provider to request a PAC code. Each provider has specific numbers for this process. For instance:

• EE: Call 150 from your EE phone or 0800 956 6000 from another phone.

• O2: Call 202 from your O2 phone or 0344 809 0222 from another phone.

• Vodafone: Call 191 from your Vodafone phone or 0333 304 0191 from another phone​

Online Account:

You can also request your PAC code through your provider’s online account services. This option is often useful if you manage multiple numbers on one account​.

How to use a PAC Code

Provide the PAC Code to Your New Provider:

• Once you have obtained your PAC code, give it to your new network provider. This can usually be done during the sign-up process for your new contract. The new provider will then handle the transfer of your old number​

Switching Process:

• The transfer process typically completes within one working day. During this time, you should keep your old SIM card in your phone to avoid any service disruption. Once the switch is complete, your old number will be active on your new SIM card​

Important points to remember

• Validity: A PAC code is valid for 30 days. If not used within this period, you will need to request a new one.

• Early Termination Fees: Be aware of any potential charges if you are ending your contract early. Your current provider is required to inform you of any such fees when they issue the PAC code
